See Ya' Down The Road

Where Do You Winter?

During our summer travels when people found we are fulltime travelers the first question seemed to be "Where do you winter?" I know I was asked that question two dozen times. Other fulltimers related how they found a nice campground in Florida, Texas or Arizona and they return there every winter - year after year to the same campground and usually the same campsite. I guess there are differences between "snowbirds" and "fulltimers." Usually snowbirds heard south for the winter and north for the summer dividing their time between the two places with travels in between.

Being fulltimers we don't have a place to spend the winter. Last year we were in Florida until Christmas when we met family in Kentucky. We spent New Years in Vicksburg, Mississippi before going to Texas for a couple of weeks, then to Arizona to visit friends and attend the annual Quartzsite events. From there we went into Mexico and next we boondocked on BLM land near Why and Tucson, Arizona. Our final winter stops were with friends by the Salton Sea and in Desert Hot Springs, California.

We think our winter's trip was more fun and interesting than spending months sitting in one campground. As we plan our sixth year of fulltiming we still don't know where we'll "winter" but it will be more exciting than sitting in one spot. So I guess we're fulltimers and not snowbirds.
