See Ya' Down The Road

What If ???

Many people considering going fulltime ask the What If questions because they are concerned a What If may hit them. Here are just a few of those questions and my answers.

What if we sell the house and decide fulltiming is not for us?

I recommend putting the proceeds from selling the house in a saving account so you will have money for another house when you decide to go off the road. Most fulltimers I have met lived in a large house before fulltiming and when they buy another house they want a smaller house and usually in a different location.

What if the price of fuel keeps rising?

Fuel cost is one thing a fulltimer can control. A simple plan is to drive 100 miles and stay a week before driving another 100 miles and staying another week. After a month you will have driven your motorhome or tow truck 400 miles and at $4 a gallon for gas or $5 for diesel, and getting 8 miles per gallon, you will spend $200 or $250 for fuel. Twice a year, once in the summer and once in the winter, stop for two months and you won't need fuel for the RV those months. So the monthly fuel cost for moving your RV will be $133 or $166 a month on average. Campground cost will be lower too because most campgrounds give discounts for weekly and monthly stays.

What if I get sick or have an accident and need a hospital stay plus recovery time?

With a RV you can select the best medical facility and best doctors and drive there in your RV. Some hospitals have facilities for RVs or chose a nearby campground. Recovering in a RV is better than a house because everything is within a few steps. If you still lived in a house you would have a large house to clean and a lawn to mow. Might even need to shovel snow. Illness and recovery in a RV is much better than in a house.

What if I am traveling and my family needs me?

That is simple - just turn your RV around and drive to where you are needed. While you are assisting your family you will have your own bedroom and bathroom. If you need to get somewhere in a hurry there are airports in every large city.

The what if questions have simple answers so if fulltiming is in your heart - hit the road and enjoy traveling around this great country.
