RVs
Which one is right for you?

Recently we attended the large four day RV Show at the fairgrounds in Tampa, Florida. We were not interested in trading in the Dutch Star as we love it and it is paid for. So why did we go? We went with friends Rich and Diane Emond so it was a social event for us. We also wanted to check out the latest features in RVs to keep ourselves informed. If you want to purchase an RV which one is right for you?

We spent most of our time studying motorhomes. New ones come in many sizes and price ranges - 26 feet to 45 feet and $50,000 to $1,500,000. All motorhomes include the same items, a chassis with wheels, brakes, an engine and a transmission. Inside you will find a kitchen, living area, sofa, shower, a bed and some cabinets and wardrobes. Usually there is a storage area under the chassis. You will also find running water (hot and cold), a furnace and air conditioner, a refrigerator and a television. So whether you pay $50,000 or more than a million, much of what you get will be the same.

Fifth-wheel trailers have become condos on wheels with multiple slideouts. Again, you can buy a new fifth-wheel for a small amount or you can pay a fortune. With a fifth-wheel you need a truck to pull it and with the larger units you need a medium duty truck. RVs also come as pop-up tents and trailers, converted vans and regular trailers.

So which is best for you? That is a question only you can answer. Just like some people live in houses, some live in condos and some in apartments. Even those that live in houses may live in a small or large house.

There is one thing you should never do when buying an RV and that is to buy on impulse. Do your homework, attend RV shows, take plant tours and talk to other RVers about their rigs. Then get the lowest price from three to five dealers. Never believe what a salesperson tells you. At the show in Tampa we asked many salesmen / sales ladies questions and not one could give correct answers.
