See Ya' Down The Road

Michigan in Five Days

I recently read an article from a writer who toured Michigan so he could write a travel book about the state and he reported he "spent five glorious days traveling around the state." What a shame. Michigan is a large diversified state that deserves slow-paced travel to absorb its beauty and wonderful people. We have traveled in Michigan three times before and we are presently starting our summer tour of the state and hope forty days will be long enough to study and see the state. Of course, given our short amount of time we will have to return another year to see what we miss.

The five day visit by the book writer verus our forty day tour reminds me about our working (hate that word) days. If we had one week of vacation we would quickly drive or fly to our destination and have about five days to be on actual vacation to enjoy the area. When we got home we were exhausted and needed a rest before returning to work. (Darn, there is that four-letter word again.)

Being fulltimers we can travel as slowly as we want and stay as long as we want. We feel guilty when we meet people on the road who are trying to pack in a full vacation in just a few days. So far our vacation has run almost six years and we expect it to last another ten years.
