See Ya' Down The Road

His Famous Goat Glad Implants Dr. John R. Brinkley, always an entrepreneur, sought ideas that would make him rich and famous. One day he reasoned that goats seemed to have more sex drive than any other mammal and he needed a way to implement the goat's sexual awareness to man. The idea hit him, implant a goat's sex gland in a man and the man would become a Casanova. Dr. Brinkley began advertising his goat gland operation in publications and clients came from around the world for his new and revolutionary operation. Dozens of operations turned into hundreds of operations and Dr. Brinkley became famous. In the 1930's Dr. Brinkley moved his medical practice to Del Rio, Texas and operated a hospital on the second floor of the Roswell Hotel. Then problems began. Many of the men who had received the implanted goat glands had not noticed any improved sexual drive and several had complications resulting from the operation. The lawsuits against Dr. Brinkley piled up so he devised a safer procedure, a commercially available injection that was combined with other surgical procedures. He advertised his patent medicines and unique treatments from his Mexican-based 500,000-watt radio station XERA, located just across the border from Del Rio. The antenna of this station increased the broadcasting power to 1,000,000-watts and could be heard over much of the United States at night. His station had twice the legal power allowed in the USA. Finally, too many lawsuits caused Dr. Brinkley to file for bankruptcy and he died penniless. In the 1950's Wolfman Jack began broadcasting on Dr. Brinkley's old radio station and became the world's most famous disc jockey. |
