A Real Bed
and Bathroom

We wish we could remember how many times we've been offered a "real bed and bathroom" when we visit family and friends. It always comes as an offer to park our home in their driveway or yard and "come inside and sleep in a real bed and use a real bathroom." Well, we have a real bed and bathroom in our home. We don't enjoy sleeping in another person's bed or using their bathroom. Our home has a Queen size bed with a ceiling fan. It has ceiling lights, reading lights and night lights. Each side has a night stand with drawers and dual-pane windows that open to give cross ventilation. We each have a wardrobe and drawers for clothing. It also has central heat and air conditioning to keep us comfortable and a TV for viewing. Our bathroom has a shower/tub combination with a skylight and exhaust fan. Of course there is a sink, medicine cabinet, mirror, toilet and a Sears washer and dryer, plus more storage than we need.

Last year we left our home down south and drove the Honda to Kentucky so we were stuck. We "had" to sleep in another person's bed and use their shower. Now mind you, we were not to use the guest bath's shower because it had not been used in years. We were to use our host's bath when they finished. The bed was too high and too soft - too bad, my back hurt. Light shined in the window and we could not get the heat adjusted. I couldn't go to sleep and I thought a drink of water might help. I crawled out of bed, felt around until I found my clothes and got dressed. After opening the bedroom door I walked down the hallway, through the family room, by the handrail and steps to the basement and finally into the kitchen. There I found a glass and got a drink of water. By the time I retraced my steps and got back in bed I was wide awake. In our home it is just a few steps from the bed to the kitchen.

The next morning I walked into the shower - I hate to step in a shower with a wet floor. I want to get it wet myself. After several tries I got the water adjusted to warm and pulled the level to divert it to the shower head. Man, the water came out like a bucket and nearly knocked me over. Blinded by the blasting water I tried to turn it down to a spray. No luck. I found I could stand in the corner of the shower with my side facing the shower head and survive. Every morning I had to go through the same ordeal. It was a pleasure to return to our home and take a perfect shower.

So if you are family or friends of ours, please invite us to visit but don't offer us a real bed or bathroom. We can bring our home to visit your home and we can visit you. But we will use our own real bed and bathroom.
