See Ya' Down The Road

Grocery Store Savings

As we travel around the United States we love to shop in different grocery stores. (We also love to shop in groceries in Canada and Mexico.) Each store is different and sometimes it is like "hide and seek" trying to find certain items. We buy house brands to save money and often buy too much in the fresh vegetable and fruit sections. A deli or bakery is always a plus and if we shop on empty stomachs we often buy too much.

We buy most of our groceries at Wal*Mart because the prices are right and Wal*Marts are RV friendly, but we have found by bargain shopping at grocery store chains we can save just as much. Many of the chain stores offer discount shopping or savings cards for "cents off" and specials. Those cards often save 10 - 15% of the total bill.

It is an easy process to get the cards. Just stop at the customer service desk and ask for one. Some stores will hand you one while others want a small amount of information. We always tell them we are fulltime travelers and do not want to be on their mailing list. In nearly six years of fulltiming we have never received a mailing from any of the grocery stores.

Some stores give a credit card size shopping card, some give a key chain size card and some give both. We have cards from Albertsons, Bashas', fry's, ingles, Kash n' Karry, Kroger, Safeway and Winn Dixie.
