In November 2001, we stopped at Rainbow Plantation in Summerdale, Alabama to visit friends Tom and Tinka Dooley. They have a garage full of craft items and Tom showed Linda some rugs made from plastic Wal-Mart bags. WOW, Linda's eyes lit up and she got excited - a free hobby. She ran back to our motorhome and dug out all the Wal-Mart bags we kept stashed under the kitchen sink and began cutting them into strips. Tom brought some more bags over and she immediately cut them up too. But before she could complete a rug she had run out of plastic bags. No problem, Linda started cutting up our garbage bags so it was no longer a free hobby. The next day Linda shopped at Wal-Mart and asked for extra bags when she checked out - a lot of extra bags. I am sure many of you have noticed large recycling bins in the fronts of grocery stores. Well, some conscientious people place their old used bags in the bins and Linda gets them out and recycles them into rugs, hats and handbags. She has been known to spread the word around campgrounds that she will accept any and all plastic bags. Linda has become known as The Bag Lady of Wal-Mart.
